I've been enjoying my Dynastic Hero booty, I'm all the way to the ice area. I was thinking that I had beaten the Genesis version, but now that I'm playing through TCD version I'm not sure I did. I also recently got Atlantean, It's an awesome game but it totally kicks my ass.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 12/25/2015, 03:30 PMIs that for consoles or is it some Steam-only bullshit?
I'm guessing multi-platform, digital only. Someone on Neogaf was saying they are trying to get the rights from Sega to use the Wonderboy name, but I don't know if that's true.

Japanese game developers have experienced a lot of success bringing their games to Steam. It is my hope that Falcom will port this game to PS4/Steam themselves and bypass Xseed. Either way, I'd say it's guaranteed to come out here.

Well I got an Famicom Everdrive N8 for Christmas. Now I just need to find a good organized romset

Statements like this are just so funny, and completely meaningless.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 12/12/2015, 03:46 PMThe specs say 120Hz. I can't imagine any display running as slow as 30Hz. It'd be throwing away half the information.
Yep, if I get a better video card or new PC, if it outputs 1080p @ 120Hz, this TV will support 120Hz then!! So that'll be nice.

Unfortunately, the 4K support, going that high in resolution (3840 x 2160) is only possible at 30Hz for this el cheapo model... That's tolerable for videos, but horrible to use as a computer monitor. I really DOUBT I would want that anyway, 1080p is great for my monitor mode needs on my work desk! I'm still tweaking it around, but so far so good. I think I will keep it, especially if I pull the return/open box rebuy so I'll get to keep it for only $191 + tax!
Generally speaking you want to run your monitor at its native resolution. If your PC is outputting 1080p then your monitor will have to convert that to match the 4k panel, introducing lag. A nice 1080p IPS panel with with crisp colors and contrast might be better.

Just watched.  Pretty sure that Shovel Knight doesn't exist on the XBOX ONE.
It does, both digital and disk release.  It's even got an exclusive Xbone section with the Battletoads.
Amazon has the Xbone version listed as unavailable. I do know that Microsoft has some weird policies for indie games and as a result more of them release on PS4. This may have something to do with it. I just purchased the game from GOG.com for PC on sale. It is really fun I see what all the fuss is about.
#259
It's 22 games for $10 I don't know why you keep saying 20. Also you can choose how much you want to go the company or to charity. If you put it all for charity then why the hell not pay for them? Lastly, you're wrong. Like it or not they are making something beside a mobile game.
#260
I try to support things I like. I listen to a lot of music on YouTube and when I find the rare musician/band I like, I make it a point to buy their music. This is no different.
#261
That's really great news. I do feel much better about the purchase.
#262
I had an issue with Dynastic Hero when I enter the first town and the screen went black to load it froze. After waiting awhile I popped the Duo lid open,  then  closed it and it loaded.  I then played through to the next town with no issues.
#263
I bought them before I knew about the emulator issue. For me it was a cheap way to be legit on a bunch of roms. Apparently you can take these very roms and use them in Mame.
#264
Well most emulators aren't free to sell. It is much like the debate about selling other people's translations
#265
It appears as if these roms are possibly using stolen emulator code. Something I think is kind of strange considering their legit roms but I guess the same thing happened with the NeoGeoX. Maybe SNK just doesn't give a shit. Here is a Neogaf post on it:

Supposedly an RGB modded Mini is superior to the all but the 1-Chip version of the regular model.

Quote from: PCEngineHell on 12/08/2015, 09:08 PMI probably forgot to mention this, but awhile back I purchased some Nes games from a business on ebay. Evidently it was a business with ties of some sort to Gamestop. All the carts had stickers on the back with info printed on them indicating they came from a Gamestop distribution center. Wish I could remember who it was, I do remember their ebay seller account was from Grapevine, Texas location wise.
That's kind of weird I wouldn't think a company like GameStop would need to use eBay as an outlet. Maybe the person  works for them and stole them lol.

In that thread someone posted this link: http://rekall.tumblr.com/ which is pretty cool. It's a collection of 80's/cyberpunk/anime/arcade flyers etc, gifs and pics. It's worth checking out. There is even some TG16/PCE related stuff if you scroll down far enough.

I also only backed the basic PCE game.  I was worried about this.  I funded it directly through the German paypal links that "teamsaberrider" had attached.  I hope my order does not get lost in the shuffle.
You should contact them to make sure everything's okay, you should have received an e-mail update by now with the dropbox link to the episode + poster. Have you been getting the kickstarter update e-mails thus far?
No, I haven't gotten anything.

EDIT: Sent them an email with my paypal receipt.  Lets see how quickly I get a response.
Just curious if you got a response? You're honestly not missing a whole lot  by not getting the episode, but I know I would be concerned as to why I didn't get it.

Quote from: shawnji on 11/09/2015, 07:57 PMWhile I don't intend to argue, and Sam makes several good points, I would encourage everyone to play the game for themselves and make up their own minds.  I personally think much of your enjoyment will depend on how much you enjoy RPG battle systems, and how much emphasis you put on the plot.  I'll leave a review here that I think takes a very even-handed approach and probably describes my thoughts on the game better than I can:
Sam makes a good assessment although I don't really agree with it. Anyways, I haven't played that game since it released. I had pre-ordered it so i know I got it release day. That was in November of 1999 which means I was 18 for 2 months. I really enjoyed the game at the time but I feel like my my assessment now would be different than in 1999 @ 18 yrs old. That really makes me want to go back and play it just to see if I feel differently.

Thanks for everyone's support, and we still have plenty.
As a person who doesn't use PayPal very much the way you pay is kind of weird. When you are at the conformation screen there is a check box that says: Are you buying something? I didn't think too much about it and unchecked that. Without notifying me, it turned the transaction into a gift.

Prices aside, I personally think its cooler to have imported stuff.  It's much more interesting to show friends superior Japanese box art  or instruction manuals.

I loved Legend of Mana also. The graphics hold up much better than most PSX games and the music is great. The battle does have its quirks but doesn't take away from the game much. The thing I hate most about the battles is the stupid npc AI, mainly the fact they never grab XP even when you want them to. The story(stories really) are not bad its just that their are multiple unfocussed stories and if you were expecting a single one you would be disappointed. Their is all kind of crap to do on the side. Growing plants, crafting, raising pets, and building golems. It also has a new game plus mode with the option for harder difficulty.

Edit: another thing about the story is that it's oftentimes light hearted even funny and seldom emo, woah is me, crap

*coughs* Chrono Cross
Like I was saying earlier, as a sequel CC sucked but as a standalone game it was great. I played it when I was in highschool so my opinion might be different if I had been older, but the sound, graphics, and battle system were all top notch and the story involving multiple dimensions was cool.

Quote from: technozombie on 11/03/2015, 07:45 PMFFT is a good game but I think most of its popularity comes from the fact that more people have played it based on the FF name.  Once you get T.G. Sid the game is a cakewalk.
I don't know about that.  I loved the atmosphere of FFT.  You had hungry people fighting in the rain and the rich were belittled for not understanding how the world worked by impoverished thieves who were shortly thereafter struck down.  I tried playing the "sequel" on GBA and it was about children going to their favorite storybook land.

On the one hand you had a game directed by Yasumi Matsuno (guy who made Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, others) that was about the struggles of poor people versus the oligarchy and the church and complicated themes of familial duty towards what is right for the people.  Then you had a sequel about how one 10 year old kid is sad that he's in a magical fairyland while two others are happy to be there and for some god damn stupid reason it is apparently against the religion of the Crocodile-men to equip bows and meanwhile Bunnygirls can't learn magic.

I've never been more disappointed with a sequel in my life than with FFTA.
I didn't mean to imply it wasn't a great game. I bought the game right after its release and loved it. I still do. I was just saying that because of the name more people have played than would have played games such as Tactics Ogre ( I've yet to play either Ogre game).

I agree 100% on FFTA. I was seriously disappointed in that game. It wasn't even the childish story but the watered down mechanics and the stupid thing where some abilities couldn't be used in battles, chosen at random.

Message turbokon or keith courage they both are excellent modders. Primarily the people here are about playing games. Requiring a certain name on system a when a playable one can be had cheaper doesn't make a lot of sense. It's like paying big bucks for a US sonic for master system when the only difference is a barcode sticker. Now, I'm not judging or picking sides, just explaining the rationale.

The special effects are cool, but I don't care for Samus' actor.  Like Link, it's pretty close to impossible to maintain her character once you start giving her lines.

And as for the video...nothing really happens :/ It's like "2002: An Interstellar Metroid Odyssey..."

Also reminded me of an episode of Rick & Morty I watched last night:
I'm not in a position to watch the video at the  moment, but I will say a metroid move done properly could be good. I'm thinking about the way Ryan Gosling's character in Drive hardly says anything throughout the whole movie but comes off like a complete badass. Anyways it highly unlikely Hollywood could do it.

I never cared for FFT.  It's a good game, but I don't understand the huge popularity with it like it's the end all be all of tactics games.  That's probably why I don't like it that much.  Not fair, but it's a personal thing with me I guess.

Wild Arms is great. I got it when it first came out. The music is great, the 2D graphics held up well the 3D battles look like ass.

Chrono Cross gets a bum rap as a sequel to Chrono Trigger but as it's own game it is fun, has some of the best graphics on the PlayStation, good soundtrack and original/good battle system.

All of it, basically. It's still definitely fun to play through if you enjoy the genre.  Policenauts is pretty good too.

How'd you like Blade Runner, by the way?  Also, which of the cuts did you end up watching?  It's my favorite film of all time, bar none, so I feel compelled to ask.
I watched the theatrical release. Are there multiple directors cuts? Are they better? I really liked the movie. The sets and backdrops were great like when he's out on that balcony just for a short time, but the scene/mood is really cool. Overall, I felt the story was a bit weak but I also realize my expectations in 2015 are different than they would have been in 1982, mostly because I was born in 81. I didn't mind the somewhat corny narration it fit with the old time detective movie theme.
